my art is poetry

Tapestry Collection by Hilton wanted to highlight an arts-related grant partnership with Youth Service America. The hotel chain's brand was focused on revitalizing hotels that have historically been a part of communities across the U.S., thus they made an investment in youth-led art projects in each city that hosts one of their hotels.

My recommendation was instead of making a 3-minute documentary about all 15 winners, that we should artistically highlight one exemplary story. We selected Angelica Petitlubin, an 18-year-old poet who developed a program that encouraged black youth to express their emotions and trauma through art. In telling her story, we made a powerful statement about her hometown of Washington, D.C.

The video was filmed over 2.5 days in several iconic D.C. locations. The interviews and "paper wall" scenes were filmed at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.
